HD Truly kicks butt

Oh and if you don't believe me check out these DOWNSAMPLED comparison shots.

Basically the guy took an HD feed then downsampled it to dvd resolutions, and compares them to the actual dvds. Imagine how pretty these would look at the full resolution.

I'm faster than my machine

I work faster than my computer is able to keep up with. This is very frustrating. My work computer is almost to the point where I can get a new one. I explicitly told our purchasing dude, and my manager that I waste lots of time waiting on my computer. In spite of that they still can't guarantee me a beefed up "developer" system.

I'm still waiting on it now. ARG!!!!!!

As a side note I have a talent. I have the ability to break computers at the touch of a button. We are putting together "locked down" internet kiosks at church. After the guys had one set up, I walked up, and touched one button and fubared it. Oh what a talent it is.

Cheney's mistake

All this hu-bub surrounding president Cheney's shooting his friend is complete bull.

"Cheney said he drank a beer with lunch the day of the shooting, according to his interview. The shooting took place about 5:50 p.m."
He had a beer before hunting holy crap. Let's crucify the guy.

Oh and here's the reaction from the guy who got shot
"Banko said he had spoken with Whittington about the uproar surrounding the incident, and his reaction was that it was "much ado about nothing.""

He at least has it right. There isn't much going on here. The fact that all the media is in an uproar about how long it took Cheney to release a public statement is preposterous (did you see the press conference). I'm very happy it took him that long. I want a government officials to take care of the problem first then tell the media about it. The media seems to feel that he should've called them while his friend was still bleeding on the ground. The media isn't appalled at how long it took Cheney to call them, they're just pissed they missed a photo op.

So Cheney get out there, and tell off the media for being morons. Stand up for yourself. Tell them it was a terrible thing that happened, and the fact that they want to dramatize it is deplorable.

So media, go do your jobs, find a real story. That's called investigative reporting. What you're doing now is called blowing a story out of proportion because you haven't been doing your real job.

My right to vote

So apparently since I have not yet registered in my district I can not vote in this election. I was registered at my previous residence, but I hadn't yet gotten around to updating my voter registration for my new house. I understand that I didn't play by the system, but to be honest with you the system sucks. It takes 30 days for them to update my address in their voter registrar. That's absoultely absurd. There's an voter registration verification and address update page available here, but it won't let me update my infortion in spite of the fact that I do indeed have all my correct information.

No wonder young people don't vote. We move too often, and then are prevented from voting because we haven't properly registered within the required window. Unfortunately for me I didn't even know there was an election going on till last week. At that point even if I wanted to change my registration, I couldn't because of how slow their system is.

I even brought my reciept to the voting place, and they still won't let me vote. I seem to remember that all it took was two pieces of mail to verify that you were indeed a resident of where you say you are. Is that only in presidential elections. Were my voting officials crazy?

No Taxation without representation. I paid my property taxes dammit (very large taxes at that). let me vote.

GaAAhHHHh!

You had better let me vote in the March 7th Primary!

Elections politics and Voting

I ever so barely fall in the 48th district, and there's an election tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'm finding it to be a very hard time discovering what exactly each of the candidates support.

So here are their home pages which I could only came across through much discomfort.
http://www.votedonna.com/Issue_Links.asp
http://www.benbentzin.com/

Looks like the Major divisional issue is Transportation and Education Finance. Apparently our local government has something called Robin Hood legislation. Basically the rich school districts give to the poorer school districts. Ben is against Robin Hood, and Donna is for it.

Also on transportation Donna doesn't know what she believes and will trust a commitee while Ben wants to legislate the crap out of it and give the voters the choice to change things. Of course you know that if we give Austin voters the choice they will always vote against new construction, and at this point I think that's a very bad idea.

So I don't know who I'm going to vote for. Ah the joys of being less partisan than most.

Edit:
I just realized I have never voted in a state election until what will probably be tomorrow. I have never felt as if I had the right to vote in an election in an area where I may or may not live in a few years (like college or my first few years here). Now I haev a home, and ever since I had to hand over that large chuch of change known as property taxes, I have become downright interested. It's amazing what having to write a check will do to a person.

Tivo ads and the bane of my existence.

Saw this link over on pvrwire.

People who tivo shows don't watch commercials (except possibly the beginning of the first commercial and the end of the last one). That's why we have pvrs. Tivo viewership should most definitely not be included in advertising ratings.

Instead large networks need to learn that people don't want to be interrupted by commercials. Instead they are going to have to become more creative about there ad placement and distribution means. Allow me to download the show, and sell ads on the website that I have to go to in order to download it. Oh and don't give me some crappy low-res SD signal, give it to me in all it's 720P glory. Then use your page hits to justify ad readership.

People in power don't like change, but it's happening whether they like it or not.

Madly in Love

Well according to this article in national geographic the "brain chemistry of infatuation is akin to mental illness". I must say given my recent fluctuation in feelings I'm not too surprised.

Which brings me to the fact that I finally got an e-mail back from "the girl". Excuse laiden and no mention of wanting to see me, I don't even know if this illness is worth it. Basically work has been busy, and she's been dealing with a whole bunch of her friend's issues. She has some really valid excuses, but it takes 2 seconds to pick up a phone and say, "Hey I'm too busy to see you this week how about next." Maybe this is just a fluke for her, but I'm tired of being treated like crap. The last girl never called me back, and I'm really not looking forward to a repeat of that.

So vote and let me know if this girl deserves a second chance.
