Commercialism is driving me nuts.

I love Christmas. I love seeing family, and hanging out with good friends. I love carols, and I love all the decorations.

I hate all the stuff that goes along with Christmas. I'm not going to buy something for you because I'll feel guilty if I don't. I'm not going to throw my money away on something you'll care very little about. I don't want you to spend money on something for me that I won't be able to use. It's all such a waste. That's not what this holiday is all about. When I find something that you'll like I'll buy it, and I'll give it to you. That's doesn't happen on predetermined holidays. Instead of spending hours upon hours in line with the rest of the lemmings how about you just come and spend that time with me. I'll enjoy it more, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

I guess, this probably stems from the fact that my family is just not the gift giving types.

Also have you ever wondered how many people actually understand the words of the carol they are singing? Especially the ones about Jesus. All too often we go about singing the words without ever letting them puncture our thick heads.

On a side note, my confidence in Fry's has been shattered. I have once again found something that the don't have. They don't carry serial port cards any more. However, they do still have peltier coolers. I will let this slide.

Can you write the new prime on your wall.

Slashdot article

Apparently a new prime number is being validated. It is just under 10 million digits long. My officemate and I were wondering how big that was. So we decided to see if it would be possible to write it out on the walls in our office. Using what appears to be Courier 10 we can fit 16 characters accross in an inch, and and 8 lines in an inch. Given the fact that our office is 140x115 that means we have a 510 inches per revolution around our office.

510 in * 16 char = 8169 chars/rev
1e7 chars / 8169 chars/rev = 1224.14 revs
1224.14 revs / 8 revs/vertical inch = 153 inches in needed height.

Our office is only 108 inches high. So we're close to 4 feet short.

That's a lot of numbers.

Electric personality.

Cars have been shocking me remarkably regularly since it started getting not hot. It's starting to get annoying. Today it shocked me even through my coat. I think it may have something to do with the dirty ground on the throttle body.

As an aside from yesterday. No I'm not up on music or pop culture. I just don't have time, and I really am that bad with names. Even band names. All I know is I like what I like, but don't expect me to know what they're called. I will however sing it for you. So I hereby request all of my friends to educate me. Let me borrow your CD's one at a time preferably so I can keep them all straight.

So in response to a top ten favorite album request from Tim yesterday. Here is a list of my top ten favorite movies.

In no particular order
10. About a boy
9. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended edition of course)
8. Theres Something about Mary (I don't know why this is here, but I'm feeling it today)
7. Army of Darkness
6. Band of Brothers (ok it's a made for TV movie)
5. Kung-fu hustle.
4. Shoalin Soccer
3. Kung Pao Enter the Fist
2. ZooLander
1. High Fidelity

Honorable mention: Waterboy or most anything else Adam Sandler.

I know I'm missing something. Consider this an off the top of my head list. I'm sure there are a few I'm missing.
